Here’s an excellent column by George Will. It’s a pretty good criticism of our current lack of political leadership. Will also highlights the need for tort reform to help hold down the interference from Johnny-one-note special interests and government by litigation.
We need jobs; jobs come from economic growth; government cannot create jobs but it can help. Even President Obama has promised to vastly increase American exports as a boost to growth and jobs. But as George Will points out, we are doing nothing about a critical aspect of national commerce: we must deepen our ports up and down the east coast.
Clogging Our Ports with Rules

This is serious political failure by both sides but with special emphasis on the American bully pulpit. This kind of leadership is what we expected but never got from President Obama and a key reason we will replace him in the fall. There are no guarantees that President Romney will be any better but it would be the definition of stupid to keep the current guy expecting different results.
In addition, it is past time to get the tree huggers, central managers, Bible thumpers and ambulance chasers back in their boxes. It’s time for common sense and a dedication to removing impediments to economic growth.
Please vote in the coming Republican primaries and in every future primary – this is how we will bend the crazies over time. South Carolina: it’s our turn on Saturday. Let’s get out there.
