It seems to me that if the Brits can Knight people and the French can hand out the Legion of Honor we certainly should have a Medal of Freedom. The White House did a far better job than Time Magazine did with their 100 “most influential people in the world” – God help us if Time’s choices are the best the planet has to offer.
Dylan was, I’d say, the least of the Administration’s picks but one whose work has not been altogether unworthy. Yet he still couldn’t help remaining in character nor could he simply decline. Neither the nation’s highest civilian honor nor the President of the United States appear to warrant donning an ordinary suit or removing one’s sunglasses or applauding the President with the same polite enthusiasm as everyone else.
Dylan seems to still move with agility but is this how N and I and friends will look just 2 years from now? Banish the thought.
