I am not a buy-American kind of guy mostly because the sentiment makes no real world sense but also because I despise a lot of the folks who utter it – I hate laborites and I refuse to be confused with the progressive morons who put “Buy American” bumper stickers on their Volvos. I have enough common sense to know where products are made and grown. I know that a Lexus or BMW made in a non-union American plant is very much an American made product.
I get the New York Times daily and perhaps you know that they openly advocate for progressive causes – even on their news pages – and those causes include advocacy for all unions. They see themselves as the newspaper of progressive intellectuals. I see them as one of the last real newspapers that also caters to pompous, sophomoric, lefty rich kids and aging hippies. To bolster my case, I point to the ads carried in the front section of the Times everyday – they’re mostly for clothes and watches you’ll never see on anybody in your town or even available for purchase in any mall near you. This is stuff for the stupid rich.
Speaking of stupid, do you know the story of NYT editor, Gerald Marzorati speaking about his readers? “We have north of 800,000 subscribers paying north of $700 a year for home delivery,” Marzorati pointed out. “Of course, they don’t seem to know that.” Marzorati seemed to think that when his paper raised its prices 5 percent during a recession that the proper reaction of progressives should have been to cancel subscriptions in droves but his readers didn’t. According to him, that had to mean that they were too dumb to know that prices went up. “That’s the beauty of the credit card,” he said, apparently implying that the paper can gouge dummies who are well off enough to have a credit card.
He’s right about the price as you might know. At the news stand it’s even higher – 2 bucks a day and 5 on Sunday. How does this clown think his paper survives? Does he think poor people buy his paper every day? I’m telling you, progressives have to get lobotomies in order to join their cult.
But I digress, this rant is supposed to be about buy-American idiots. Here is an ad from today’s NYT by Bosch.
I love our Bosch dishwasher but it’s a good thing we bought it before I saw this ad. What are these guys thinking?
