Ron Morris is an idiot but I cannot thank him enough for bringing this story to our attention. And thanks to N – you don’t think I read the sports pages. Are you tired of seeing disgusting conduct from athletes? Consider this.
Louis Day is a shot-putter and University of South Carolina junior from Hempstead, N.Y. His coach is Mike Sergent. At a recent completion, officials measured one of Day’s throws at 59 feet. Day was adamant that they made a mistake – he could not have thrown that far he insisted. As a result of the error, Day made the finals in the ninth and last slot. Coach Sergent went to the meet’s head official.
“What are we doing here, because I still don’t think that is right,” Sergent told the official.
“Well, no one protested it,” said the official.
“Do I need to be the one to protest it?” asked Sergent.
“Well, if you want to.”
So Sergent filled out the paperwork to protest the throw and had to claim that his shot-putter had reached the finals without merit.
In a second astonishing moment, officials ruled that the field for the finals would be expanded to 10 in order to include both Day and Caleb Whitener of the University of Georgia who finished behind Day in the prelims. In the finals, Whitener finished ninth and Day 10th.
“I didn’t want to get a spot I didn’t deserve,” said Louis Day. My hero.
I hope everyone will forgive me for showing Day’s picture but he looks like a kid who would do this, doesn’t he? Secondly, and without apology, it seems sometimes that the majority of our athlete jerks and thugs are black males; so…
