The Depravity Factor in Foreign Policy

Here is a profoundly accurate, if angry, view of the Israeli/Palestinian “peace process” from David Brooks.  It’s very much worth a read because his premise is well worth consideration for our foreign policy in general and particularly in the region.

I do admit that the essay fits nicely with my long held view that peace is impossible in Palestine because the only two nations that actually want it are America and Israel.  Nobody in the region wants peace.  America’s enemies as well as competitors such as France desire the status quo or worse and our friends find it expedient to stay neutral.  Their strategy is simple: deny reality, blame Israel and demand that America solve the problem.

America politicizes everything;  it’s the curse of democracy.  Regarding Israel, we have the Jimmy Carter peaceniks vs the George W neocons – both distract us from the realities.

The problem is not Israel or even Palestine, it’s the depraved governments in the region and the world’s cynical refusal call it like it is because of their own perceived national self interests.  Peace will come when the region wants peace and not before.  American politicians who claim otherwise and blame the other Party should be shown the door.
